Youth Charged in Delgado Slaying

A Hawthorne teen-ager was charged with murder Wednesday in the shooting death of Leuzinger High School student Robert Delgado, 16, who had recently joined a gang, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The 17-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld because he is a juvenile, had been suspended from Leuzinger High School for fighting but returned to campus Nov. 5 and became embroiled in a fight with Delgado, Deputy Britta Rodela said.
Later in the day, soon after school was dismissed, the suspect drove to the house where Delgado was standing with a group of friends waiting for a ride home and shot him, she said.
Although police arrested three adults in connection with the shooting, charges have been filed only against the juvenile, Rodela said. He was charged with murder in Inglewood Juvenile Court.
