From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Federal officials have ruled out shredded pieces of balloons as a factor in the crash of a single-engine airplane that killed a traffic reporter and a pilot. The balloon fragments had been sent for analysis to George Petterson, a Los Angeles-based investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. Killed in the Nov. 1 crash were traffic reporter Howard Kreisler, 29, and his pilot, Douglas Hayden, 31. The balloons, imprinted with the name of a bowling alley in Huntington Beach, were found near the crash site.
