Arroyo Grande Ground Game Crushes Costa Mesa

ARROYO GRANDE — Junior running back Clemente Sainten scored five touchdowns to lead Arroyo Grande to a 40-0 victory over Costa Mesa in a Division VII playoff game Friday.
Arroyo Grande will play Temple City in the second round.
Sainten gained a school-record 256 yards in 15 carries as the Eagles (9-1) rolled up 503 total yards. Sainten scored on runs of six, 88, 17, three and 56 yards. The five touchdowns give Sainten 30 for the season. Arroyo Grande quarterback Clayton Millis completed seven of 17 passes for 97 yards, including a 39-yard pass to Sainten to set up Arroyo Grande’s second touchdown.
Arroyo Grande allowed only 121 yards total to Costa Mesa (6-5). The Mustangs gained only 62 yards rushing, with Jermaine Jackson leading the team with 46 yards on eight carries. Costa Mesa quarterback Ryan McEvoy completed five of 10 passes for 59 yards and had one interception. McEvoy was sacked five times.
