A 23-year-old roofer suffered burns over 20% of his body Thursday when a propane stove he was using ignited and exploded at a small business in Poway, authorities said.
Greg M. Koenig was listed in serious condition Thursday night at the burn unit of UC San Diego Medical Center, a spokeswoman said.
The explosion occurred at 6:09 p.m. at the Complete Roof Care Co., at 12350 Oak Noll Road in Poway, said a spokesman for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Fire and sheriff’s units from Poway found Koenig with burns on his face, hands and legs from his knees to his ankles, the spokesman said.
The initial investigation determined that a friend of Koenig was igniting a propane stove inside a camper trailer when the explosion occurred, said Sgt. Connie Grayson of the Sheriff’s Arson Explosives Unit.
