CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN DIEGO : City Is a Finalist to Hold Convention
- Share via
Mayor Maureen O’Connor expressed confidence that San Diego will be chosen to host the 1992 Republican National Convention, even though the city’s convention hall could be too small and no public funds are being offered to support the event. Republican National Committee officials contacted O’Connor’s office by telephone Friday morning to announce that San Diego, Houston and New Orleans are the finalists for the honor of hosting the convention. If selected, the city hopes to stage the convention with $10 million in private donations. The convention falls in the same year that baseball’s All-Star Game and the America’s Cup are scheduled to be held in San Diego.
