Councilman Jay Kim has nominated retired police officer Thomas F. Ortiz as a candidate for the seat that Assemblyman-elect Paul Horcher will vacate Monday.
A 13-year resident of Diamond Bar, Ortiz, 50, is among seven nominees to the post. Other nominees interviewed at a special City Council meeting Thursday were Clair Harmony, Lydia Plunk, Don Nardella, Joe Anthony and Cindee Quan. Nominee Gary Miller was recovering from a recent operation and did not attend the interview.
The council will discuss the candidates at its regular meeting Tuesday and will have 30 days after Horcher’s resignation to make an appointment.
