Tokheim Plans to Close Tennessee Plant: Ft. Wayne, Ind.-based Tokheim Corp., a major manufacturer of service station gasoline pumps, will close its Newbern, Tenn., assembly plant to reduce manufacturing costs. Operations at the Tennessee plant, which employs 308, will be folded into the Ft. Wayne fabrication and machining plant by late summer of 1991. Tokheim officials said a new contract with members of United Auto Workers at the Ft. Wayne factory was a main factor in their decision to relocate to northeastern Indiana.
