Israeli Public Workers End Strike, Sign Pact

JERUSALEM — The Labor Party-affiliated Histadrut union late Monday reached an agreement with the Finance Ministry and called off its strike, which had virtually shut down Israel’s public sector Sunday.
The agreement enabled about 500,000 Israelis to return to work immediately, Israel Army Radio reported.
The workers were protesting proposed cuts in the minimum wage and additional taxes on savings to help provide an estimated $30 billion for the absorption of immigrants. Under the accord, the taxes will stay the same and the wage issue will be discussed.
