Third baseman Scott Coolbaugh was traded by the Texas Rangers to the San Diego Padres for catcher Mark Parent. Parent, 29, hit .222 in 65 games with three home runs and 16 runs batted in for San Diego last season. Coolbaugh hit .200 in 67 games with two homers and 13 RBIs for the Rangers.
Texas also announced that right-handed pitcher Rich Gossage, 39, will be given a tryout during the club’s minicamp for pitchers Jan. 7-11.
