Airbus May Develop New Jumbo Jet: Airbus Industrie said it might develop a large commercial jet to compete with rival Boeing Co. in the lucrative U.S. market. The Airbus plane, tentatively dubbed the A350, would be able to carry up to 700 passengers and have a range of at least 7,000 miles. It would be intended to compete with Boeing’s 747, which has given the Seattle-based plane maker a monopoly in the high-capacity commercial jet market since it was first put into service 20 years ago.
