CalMat Co., Los Angeles, has elected A. Frederick Gerstell, 52, chairman, succeeding William Jenkins, 70, who is retiring. Gerstell, whose appointment will become effective Jan. 1, will continue his responsibilities as president and chief executive. Jenkins will continue to serve as a director and chairman of the Executive and Long Range Planning Committee.
