The Oakland Athletics, responding to the questionable status of third baseman Carney Lansford, signed veteran infielder Vance Law. Lansford was injured in a snowmobile accident last month. Law hit .313 with the Chunichi Dragons in Japan last season, with 29 home runs and 78 runs batted in. Law has a .257 average in 1,138 major league games.
