County Sheriff Jim Roache said Thursday that he is considering adding more investigators to a a multiagency task force investigating the killings of 44 prostitutes and transients.
The Metropolitan Homicide Task Force, composed of members of the San Diego Police Department, county Sheriff’s Department, district attorney’s office and state attorney general’s office, was formed in 1988 to solve the slayings over the past several years. Last fall, the group was expanded to look into charges of police corruption and misconduct involving prostitutes.
Of the group’s 21 members, six are from the Sheriff’s Department.
Roache said he will meet with task force members next week for a briefing before he decides on additions to the force.
