Used primarily as an armed reconnaissance plane for long-range artillery and naval guns. The Bronco can also be employed for low-level photography or as an escort helicopters into enemy territory. There are about eight in the Gulf with half from Camp Pendleton. Two Bronco crew members are among the American POWs being held in Iraq. They are Chief Warrant Officer Guy L. Hunter, 46, and Lt. Col. Clifford M. Acree, 39.
* Crew: Two, plus up to six crews * Power Plant: Two 715 shp turboprops * Performance: Mac. speed 280 mph at sea level, operational ceiling 26,000 ft., flight time 3.85 hrs. * Load: Four .303 inch machine guns, plus up to 3,200 lb. of ordnance/fuel and/or censors.
