Vons Is In First: Vons Cos. Inc. has become the first big retailer to buy into Santa Margarita Co.’s new town of Rancho Santa Margarita, acquiring 4.5 acres for a supermarket in the center of the planned community. The price was not disclosed.
The parcel is part of a planned 15-acre shopping center called Plaza Antonio, a joint venture between the big landowner and the Koll Co. in Newport Beach. Vons, based in Arcadia, will start construction on the 54,000-square-foot Pavilions grocery store this summer.
