A magazine that circulates just 30,000 copies has become an unexpected star of the Persian Gulf War. JANE’S DEFENSE WEEKLY is considered one of the most authoritative sources of information on the world’s military. And when the war prompted questions from the media, publisher Paul Beaver was the man with the answers. Before the war, he had made about five media appearances a week. Says Beaver: “It was more like five an hour in the first week of the Gulf War--we went rather overboard.” One British network, Independent Radio News, has even installed a direct line in his office.
