P.M. BRIEFING : Tokyo to Extend Trading Day
- Share via
TOKYO — The Tokyo Stock Exchange plans to begin its afternoon trading session 30 minutes earlier, an exchange spokesman said today.
The lengthier sessions will start after a computerized trading system is completed around late March, he said.
Afternoon trading will be from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. instead of the current 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The longer hours are to cope with increased membership and turnover and the end of Saturday trading. The spokesman added that the exchange is not committed to a deadline and will take time to assess the effects of computerization on trading and staff work patterns before starting the longer hours.
