RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA — The Rancho Santa Margarita Co. has announced that it will build a 15-acre shopping center at Antonio Parkway and Coto de Caza Drive.
Construction of the development, named Plaza Antonio, is scheduled to begin this spring, with the completion set for next year, spokeswoman Diane Gaynor said.
The center will have 162,000 square feet of floor space and will be at the gateway to the planned El Paseo retail district, which is scheduled to be built during the 1990s.
The center will have a Spanish colonial motif and will include courtyards and a clock tower, Gaynor said.
The Vons supermarket chain is the first company to agree to open a store in Plaza Antonio, Gaynor said. Vons will build a Pavilions, which is its chain of upscale supermarkets.
