World IN BRIEF : COLOMBIA : Drug Cartels Blamed for Huge Car Bomb

Colombian police blamed assassins hired by drug traffickers for a huge car bomb that exploded as thousands of people were leaving a bullfight, killing nine policemen and 13 civilians. The 440-pound bomb, which exploded in Colombia’s cocaine capital of Medellin, injured 176 people and turned dozens of cars into burning wrecks. “The characteristics of the attack . . . indicate that the police have once more been victims of organized crime,” Medellin Police Chief Col. Jorge Ferrer said.
