SURF, NO SAND: Commercials for Taxi Ice Cream, sold only in Saudi Arabia, are being filmed today and Friday in . . . you guessed it, Newport Beach. Home Video Network of Costa Mesa says fear of Scud missiles and a hankering for U.S. razzmatazz brought the ads here. “They didn’t want to put their kids out on the street while missiles were flying around,” ad-maker Donn Greer says. So he rounded up 20 Arab children living locally to make the ads.
