COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Oxnard’s Salado Stops Pierce With 4-Hitter

Tim Salado threw a four-hitter to lead the Oxnard College baseball team to a 5-3 victory over Pierce in a Mt. San Antonio College tournament game Wednesday.
Salado (1-1) struck out 10. Chris Gaston supported Salado with a home run, a triple and four runs batted in.
In other baseball games:
Mt. San Antonio 17, Oxnard 7--Pat Avila and Brian Lovelace each had three hits for Oxnard (7-8) in the Condors’ first Mt. SAC tournament game of the day. Joe Canfield (2-2) absorbed the loss for Oxnard.
East L. A. 5, Pierce 2--East L. A. used three walks, two run-scoring singles and a sacrifice fly to score four runs in the third inning of a Mt. SAC tournament game.
Travis Arsenault went the distance for the Brahmas (6-5), striking out eight and giving up three earned runs.
Orange Coast 12, Valley 5--Joey Ishikawa had two hits and two RBIs for Valley (3-7-1) in a nonconference game at Orange Coast.
Kirby Gray (0-2) took the loss for Valley. Chad Ratliff extended his hitting streak to 11 for Valley with a bunt single in the third inning.
SOFTBALL
Moorpark 7, Chaffey 6--Julie Coert was three for three with three stolen bases, two runs and a double for host Moorpark (7-0) in a nonconference game.
Tammy Kauffman was two for four and Leslie North had two hits for Moorpark.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Santa Monica d. Canyons, 14-16, 15-11, 15-13, 15-9--Eric Henkels led Canyons (3-2, 0-1) with 12 kills in a Western State Conference match. Jason LeClair led Santa Monica (2-1, 1-0) with 13 kills.
Pierce d. El Camino, 6-15, 15-13, 15-10, 6-15, 15-8--Jamal Thompson had 18 kills and six solo blocks for Pierce (3-0, 1-0) in a Western State Conference match at Pierce. Chad Blatchley added 26 kills for Pierce.
