The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found Saturday in the trunk of a car parked in a residential area of Fillmore, Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Funches said.
The cause of the man’s death is unknown, but it is being investigated as a homicide, Funches said. “They think he’s been dead at least a week, maybe two.”
Police opened the trunk of the car on King Street about 9:30 a.m. after residents reported smelling a foul odor, Funches said.
The name of the person to whom the car is registered was not released in case the victim is identified as the car’s owner, Funches said.
An autopsy will be performed this afternoon, Deputy Coroner Mitch Breese said.
