FAA Investigating Safety of Boeing 727: Boeing Co. is denying allegations that a design flaw in its 727 jetliner has caused at least 10 of the planes to veer out of control during flight. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the charges contained in a letter sent by the Air Line Pilots Assn., the commercial pilots union. The ALPA letter said the automatic pilot mechanisms in 727s have malfunctioned periodically since 1977, resulting in at least 10 serious accidents. None of the incidents mentioned in the ALPA letter resulted in a crash.
