Former California Gov. George Deukmejian, stumping the Pacific Rim for new trade agreements, called for an end to the U.S. economic embargo of Vietnam, according to details of a speech released here. “If we did indeed bury the Vietnam syndrome in the desert sands of the Middle East, then it is time to put the embargo behind us,” Deukmejian said in a speech prepared for the American Business Council in Singapore. The former governor is a partner in the international law firm of Sidley & Austin, based in Chicago and Los Angeles. His speech in Singapore came at the end of a two-week, three-nation tour of Pacific Rim trading partners.
