McDonald Named 49er Women’s Coach

Glenn McDonald, 39, was named women’s basketball coach at Cal State Long Beach Thursday.

McDonald, who had strong support for the job from 49er players and the Long Beach community, was chosen over Trish Roberts, women’s basketball coach at the University of Maine. “This was the most difficult decision I have made,” Athletic Director Corey Johnson said.

A former player at Long Beach and with the Boston Celtics, McDonald was an assistant for the past five seasons, working with Coach Joan Bonvicini, who left last month to become coach at the University of Arizona.

Bonvicini had a 325-71 record in 12 seasons with the 49ers.
