Monterey Park : Foreign Book Grant Sought

The city is applying for a $30,000 federal grant to purchase Chinese- and Spanish-language books, magazines, cassette tapes and videos for its library.
The U.S. Department of Education has made available $976,000 for libraries across the nation to buy foreign-language materials under a 1984 bill designed to improve library services. The money will be disbursed starting Oct. 1.
The city’s Bruggemeyer Memorial Library has acquired an extensive collection of titles in Chinese, English, Spanish and other languages.
