A woman drove her car over a curb and through a fence before stopping in front of a sixth-grade classroom at Sycamore Elementary School in Simi Valley on Thursday, police said.
The driver and two children in the car were not injured, police said.
The identity of the driver was not disclosed.
The incident occurred just as the 2:50 p.m. bell rang to let students out of the school in the 2100 block of Ravenna Street, police said.
Witnesses said the driver backed her car into a van while trying to park in front of the school.
Then the car sped forward, jumping the curb and plowing through the fence, witnesses said.
“Thirty seconds later and we would have had . . . fatalities,” said teacher Tom Layton, whose classroom was in the path of the car.
Police said the driver had come to pick up her daughter from school. They said they were still trying to determine what caused the accident.
