Garrett Noel of Cal State Northridge improved his school record in the javelin and teammate Kevin Hendrix ran his season-best time in the 100 meters in the Long Beach State Twilight Invitational on Thursday.
Noel, a sophomore from Crespi High, won the javelin with a throw of 225 feet 11 inches on his sixth and final attempt. Hendrix, a senior, won the 100 in a wind-aided 10.35.
Noel, whose previous lifetime best was 220-8, exceeded the provisional qualifying mark (219-10) for next week’s NCAA Division I championships in Eugene, Ore.
Hendrix, a senior who ran a wind-aided 10.37 earlier this season, also exceeded the provisional standard (10.40).
Provisional qualifiers will fill out the fields in the NCAA meet if the number of automatic qualifiers is below the desired level for an event.
