For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Protect azaleas and camellias from hot afternoon sun. Plant them in a northern or filtered light exposure in well draining soil.

* Install a drip irrigation system in your vegetable or flower beds this month. You’ll see substantial savings on your water bill and your plants will be grateful for water directly where they need it.

* Feed citrus trees monthly with citrus food to promote good fruit production.

* May planted tomatoes often produce faster than those planted in March or April.

* Yellow leaves on camellias and azaleas can generally be corrected with applications of chelated iron. Apply to the soil or to the foliage. Follow directions or ask a California Certified Nursery person for help.
