NCAA GOLF : Oklahoma State Leads After Second Round; USC Seventh

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Kevin Wentworth shot a four-under par 68 and Bob May, a senior from La Habra, added a one-under par 71 to boost Oklahoma State into the team lead Thursday after two rounds of the 94th NCAA Men’s Golf Championships.
Wentworth, a senior from Manteca, Calif., had six birdies and two bogeys for the tournament’s low round as the Cowboys vaulted from a sixth-place tie to the top spot after 36 holes. Oklahoma State recorded an eight-under par 280 team score for a two-day total of 580.
USC is in seventh place at 594.
Oklahoma State holds a three-shot lead over Wake Forest, which shot three-under par 285 for a 36-hole total of 583, and a four-shot lead over North Carolina, which shot two-under par 286 for a 36-hole total of 584. Brigham Young, the first-round leader, matched its first-round score of 295 but dropped to fourth place with 590.
Individually, Georgia’s Franklin Langham shot a three-under par 69 and has a 141 total. Phil Mickelson shot a 70 and is at 144.
