The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy Foundation will launch a new monthly film series, “Academy Standard Screenings,” tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater with the presentation of a new six-track stereophonic print of the late David Lean’s 1970 “Ryan’s Daughter,” starring Robert Mitchum, Sarah Miles, Christopher Jones and John Mills, who won a best supporting actor Oscar. Playing with it is a 1970 Oscar-winning animated fable, Nick Bosustow’s “Is It Always Right to Be Right?”
Turner Entertainment is providing a new 35mm anamorphic print of the film along with the six-channel magnetic soundtrack used for the 70mm release. In July, the Academy will present “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” with an interlocked presentation of the rarely-heard multichannel stereophonic track.
