Federated, Allied Stores: Federated Department Stores and Allied Stores, the Campeau Corp. divisions operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, lost a combined $64.2 million in their first quarter ended May 4. A year earlier they lost $99.5 million. Combined sales were flat at $1.59 billion. The retailers said they plan to file an amended bankruptcy reorganization plan July 1, along with a related disclosure statement. Federated and Allied own Ralphs Grocery Co., one of Southern California’s biggest supermarket chains. They have proposed spinning it off as an independent company.
