Playa del Rey : Redesign of Intersection
The developer of the Playa Vista project has purchased four pieces of property at a key intersection in Playa del Rey so that the intersection can be expanded to accommodate the traffic generated by the vast proposed city-within-a-city.
Maguire Thomas Partners paid $2.8 million for slightly less than an acre of land at the corner of Culver Boulevard and Vista del Mar. The triangular site includes a restaurant, a small office building and a former gas station.
Senior partner Nelson Rising said the property will be used to redesign the intersection to handle traffic from an expanded six-lane Culver Boulevard that will run through much of the 670-acre Playa Vista project. A meeting will be held with homeowner groups in Playa del Rey to discuss plans for street improvements in the area, he said.
Maguire Thomas’ plans call for construction of a multibillion-dollar development with 5 million square feet of offices, 11,750 residential units, 720,000 square feet of retail space, hotels and a marina with 750 boat slips.
Work is under way on an environmental impact report that will detail the project’s effects on the surrounding area. A draft report may be released late this summer, Rising said.
