An Oxnard youth who was struck in a hit-and-run collision may have been the victim of attempted homicide, police said Thursday.
Emelio Michel, 16, was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of 1st Street and Bernarda Court at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday. Oxnard police detectives suspect that Michel may have had a dispute with the driver before the collision.
Michel apparently was walking to a friend’s house when a black pickup truck pulled next to him, Detective Dan Christian said. A witness who lives in the neighborhood reported that he saw Michel talking to the driver.
A few minutes later, the same witness saw a dark pickup hit Michel and speed away, Christian said.
Michel was taken to Ventura County Medical Center with severe head injuries. He was listed in grave condition Thursday.
Residents who witnessed the collision or have any information on the identity of the driver may call police at 984-4749.
