Writer-director Moshe Mizrahi’s tender, poignant 1972 film, set largely before the turn of the century, turns upon the Old Testament doctrine that declares when a woman is widowed she must marry her brother-in-law if there are not yet sons to carry on the family name. Luckily, Rosa (Michel Bat-Adam), a 20-year-old widow, is fond of her brother-in-law (Gabi Otterman) and vice versa--but he is only 11 years old.
