SIMI VALLEY : Channel Repairs Close Bike Path
- Share via
Bicyclists in Simi Valley will have to detour around parts of the Arroyo Simi bike trail for the next few months.
A portion of the trail south of Los Angeles Avenue and north of Royal Avenue between Tapo Canyon Road and Sycamore Drive was closed this week because of repairs at adjacent flood-control channels, said Rick Johnson, spokesman for the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
Trucks operated by the Ventura County Flood Control District will be using the trail to get to the Arroyo del Tapo and Arroyo Simi channels, Johnson said.
The concrete-bottom channels need to be repaved, he said.
The bike trail will be closed until the channels are repaired, which will probably take three or four months, Johnson said. During this time, the entrances to the trail at Los Angeles and Royal avenues and Sycamore Drive will be locked.
Johnson said the trail is heavily traveled by bicyclists and pedestrians, including children who use the trail to walk to and from neighborhood schools.
