UFW Accused of Illegal Secondary Boycott: The California Table Grape Commission accused United Farm Workers of operating an illegal secondary boycott by urging customers not to shop at Vons supermarkets because they sell grapes. Commission Chairman Bruce Obbink contended that the tactic is “blatantly illegal” under the state’s Agricultural Labor Relations Act. Obbink said a formal complaint was being filed with the Farm Labor Board. The UFW alleges that pesticides used in growing the grapes are poisoning farm workers and causing birth defects among some of their children.
