Australians Carey Hall and Stephen Pate have tested positive for banned anabolic steroids at the World Championships this week in Germany, where they placed first and third.

Officials said the drug used by both cyclists was stanozolol, the steroid discovered in Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson when he tested positive at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
