Reader’s Digest Assn. Inc. has named James P. Schadt, an executive at Cadbury Schweppes PLC, as its president and chief operating offer.
Schadt fills a position vacant since June 30, 1990, when Richard F. McLoughlin retired.
Most recently, Schadt was president of Cadbury Schweppes’ worldwide beverage business and was based in Stamford, Conn., Reader’s Digest said. He previously worked at companies including Sara Lee Corp., Electrolux, Pepsico Inc., Squibb Corp. and Procter & Gamble Co.
He will report to George V. Grune, chairman and chief executive of Reader’s Digest.
Besides publishing the magazine Reader’s Digest, the company produces books and home-entertainment products and is involved in direct-mail marketing.
