La Jolla Country Day 41, Village Christian 19--La Jolla Country Day scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to break a scoreless tie, then cruised to victory in a nonleague game at Mira Mesa High in San Diego.
Rashaan Salaam scored three touchdowns on runs of 33 and one yard and on an 81-yard kickoff return for Country Day (2-0). He also intercepted a pass at Country Day’s five-yard line before pitching to Larry Cheng, who ran 95 yards for a touchdown.
Village Christian (1-1) piled up 326 yards in total offense but turned the ball over four times.
Village Christian’s Myles Brown caught two touchdown passes. His first was one of 33 yards from quarterback David Treanor with 1:11 left in the first half that cut Country Day’s lead to 21-7. His second touchdown was a 78-yard reception.
Treanor hit nine of 22 passes for 167 yards with three interceptions. Village Christian’s Chad Everett carried 16 times for 93 yards.
