‘Freddy Krueger’ Day in L.A.
I was appalled to learn that Mayor Bradley proclaimed Sept. 13 “Freddy Krueger Day,” (Metro, Sept. 13). I am aghast and disgusted that the supposed leader of our city has bestowed an honor on the representation of a vicious and sadistic serial killer. His honoring of the character in order to assist the film’s publicists attract viewers is completely unjustifiable.
In this city, where senseless violence and murder continue to spiral out of control, the mayor’s honorable recognition of such a despicable representation of such violence is a blatant example of gross misjudgment.
I feel Mayor Bradley’s disgusting display of insensitivity and lack of leadership mandates that he apologize to the residents of Los Angeles and retract the proclamation he so thoughtlessly made.
