Two banks were robbed in separate incidents in Coronado and San Diego on Friday, including one by an elderly man claiming he had a bomb, authorities said.
The man, who looked to be between 60 to 70 years old, entered a branch of the San Diego Trust & Savings Bank, 4690 63rd St., at about 5 p.m., San Diego police said.
Using a note, the man told a teller he had a bomb and demanded money, police said. The man escaped on foot carrying a package of money containing red dye.
The robber, who was about 5-foot-9 inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds, was wearing a white cap, pink shirt, blue windbreaker and glasses.
In an unrelated robbery, an armed man entered the Bank of America branch at 1199 Orange Ave. in Coronado shortly before 4 p.m., Coronado police said.
Carrying a semi-automatic handgun, the man threatened the teller and told her to place the money in a paper bag.
The man escaped on foot carrying an undetermined amount of money. He was described as about 5-foot-8 inches tall, in his early 20s with short brown hair, brown eyes and unshaven. He was wearing a fluorescent green cap and fluorescent pink tank top.
