Buena Park Overcomes Miscues, Holds Off Santa Fe to Win, 21-14

BUENA PARK — Buena Park lost four first-half fumbles, but defeated Santa Fe, 21-14, in a nonleague game Friday in front of about 1,000 at Buena Park High School.
Buena Park led, 7-0, at the half and opened a 21-0 lead with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.
The final Buena Park score came with nine minutes left. Robert Starks scored on a two-yard run for the Coyotes (2-1).
Angel Barrios had a big hand in Buena Park’s other two touchdowns. He gave his team a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a five-yard run up the middle with 1:30 left in the half.
Barrios caught a screen pass and went 57 yards with for a touchdown that gave the Coyotes a 14-0 lead with 6:50 left in the third quarter. Barrios finished with 77 yards rushing in 13 carries. Starks led Buena Park with 84 yards in 16 carries.
Santa Fe (0-3) rallied after the final Buena Park score. Vince Wilson took the kickoff and went 93 yards to cut the lead to 21-6. Santa Fe went for a two-point conversion, but the run failed.
Santa Fe got the ball back with 3:13 left after a fumble, the seventh of the game by Buena Park. The Chiefs went 91 yards in seven plays and scored on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Mark Kotsay to Wilson with nine seconds left.
Santa Fe tried an onsides kick, but Buena Park recovered it with eight seconds left.
