DRESSING UP: Did metal fans ever think they’d see the day when their idols would don tuxedos and toast each other at a gala, black tie awards ceremony?
On Thursday, the first annual Concrete Foundations Awards will convene at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott. The event--designed to honor the contributions of hard rock, heavy metal and thrash artists--is expected to draw a motley crew of tuxedo-clad headbangers, including Ronnie James Dio and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford.
“I’m so excited,” said Ozzy Osbourne, who has been selected to receive a lifetime achievement award. “I just ordered a new frock from Bob Mackie.”
The ceremony will kick off the 1991 Foundations Forum, a hard rock/heavy metal convention set to run through Saturday. The event will feature panels, clinics, live unsigned band showcases plus performances by Soundgarden and Osbourne.
