Feed Grains Acreage Reduction at 5%: Agriculture Secretary Edward Madigan announced that corn, sorghum and barley farmers who receive government subsidies will be required to idle 5% of their land next year. Oat farmers will again not be required to idle any land under the acreage reduction program (ARP), Madigan announced. This year’s ARP for corn, sorghum and barley had been set at 7.5%. The smaller ARP next year will allow for greater production by farmers who receive government subsidies and are required to set aside some of their land to participate in the program. Madigan has until Nov. 15 to modify the ARP if the total supply of feed grains changes significantly from current estimates.
