USD Snaps Losing Streak by Defeating Portland in 4

The University of San Diego broke a four-match losing streak Thursday night with an 18-16, 17-15, 12-15, 15-5 women’s volleyball victory over visiting Portland in a West Coast Conference match.
Junior setter Shannon Mutch broke her own assist record for a four-game match with 69. She set the old record of 62 last year against Hofstra. Jennifer Loftus led USD (9-8, 1-2) with 30 kills. Portland fell to 10-7 and 2-1.
SOCCER
The Sockers announced that Randy Hahn and Tony Lovitt will broadcast their 32-game package with KMFB-AM radio and the San Diego Cable Sports Network. Hahn will handle play-by-play for the Sockers’ 20 road games, 11 on SDCSN and nine on KMFB. Lovitt will call the Sockers’ 12-home radio games on KFMB and host the MSL report, the Sockers’ postgame talk show on radio.
The Sockers also announced that KFMB weekend personality Roy Robertson will be the team’s public address announcer.
GOLF
The sixth Jack In The Box Holiday Bowl Hole-In-One Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Oct. 16-25 at the Stardust Driving Range in Mission Valley.
Finalists in the tournament have a chance at $1 million, if they ace the Stardust Country club’s ninth hole.
BASEBALL
Finals for the Budweiser “Fastest Pitcher in the West” game are set for Sunday before the Padres-Reds game at Jack Murphy Stadium.
Finalists from four divisions will compete to see who has the best fastball in San Diego. Competition begins at 12:10 p.m. and winners will be honored during a pregame ceremony.
