Kiss Me Kate (KCAL today at noon). This evergreen 1953 musical, featuring Cole Porter tunes and a lively book by Samuel and Bella Spewack, was brought to the screen by writer Dorothy Kingsley and director George Sidney in the grand MGM manner of absolute and captivating make-believe. Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson are the battling but actually loving couple whose stormy private lives parallel their roles in a musical version of “The Taming of the Shrew.”
Strangers on a Train (KCOP Saturday at 2 a.m.) If you haven’t seen this 1951 Hitchcock classic in a long while, catch up with it to view just how incomparable the master of suspense really was. Robert Walker is the charming, decadent ne’er-do-well whose proposal to upwardly mobile Farley Granger to exchange murders is all too serious.
