HUNGER PAINS: No one knows how many children in Orange County are at risk of hunger, but the rising number of families receiving federal checks and food stamp aid is one indicator. . . . Yet food stamps may not fully meet an AFDC family’s monthly needs, says local manager Sandi Harrison. After families pay for rent, utilities and other basics, there may not be enough cash left for groceries. Experts gathered here for a conference on hunger Tuesday (B1).
