Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Poll Gives Women Edge in ’92 Election

Female candidates of both parties are perceived as more competent than their male counterparts in dealing with issues expected to play a prominent role in the 1992 elections, said a poll released by the Women’s Campaign Fund, the National Women’s Political Caucus and Emily’s List, a Democratic women’s group. The poll found that voters perceive female candidates as more honest and consider women better able than men to address domestic issues. Female candidates were viewed as weaker than male candidates, however, on issues such as defense and foreign policy.
