Buena Park Capitalizes on La Habra’s Turnovers

LA HABRA — Buena Park’s Hector Rubio returned a kickoff for a touchdown and also had two interceptions as the Coyotes defeated La Habra, 41-7, in a Freeway League football game in front of a homecoming crowd of about 2,500 Friday at La Habra High School.
Buena Park (7-1, 3-0 in league) led, 14-0, at the half and Rubio, a junior, then took the second-half kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead. Rubio had interceptions in the first and fourth quarters.
Geno Robles had a one-yard dive for Buena Park first touchdown with 10 minutes 43 seconds left in the second quarter. Angel Barros scored on a nine-yard run with 1:59 left in the half. Each touchdown was set up by a fumble.
Sophomore George McDonald, who alternated between running back and quarterback, scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for Buena Park.
The first came on a 16-yard run as a running back to give Buena Park a 34-7 lead with 11:53 left in the game. As quarterback, he took an option play and broke it for an 80-yard touchdown run for the final score of the game with 3:47 left in the game.
Matt Moreno scored on a six-yard run in the third-quarter for La Habra (3-4-1, 1-2).
